Volkswagen donates $1 million to restoring the Australian Bush

Volkswagen’s new undertaking follows its $500,000 donation earlier this year to the volunteer fire brigades of Queensland, News South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

Bush Heritage Australia is an independent not-for-profit national organisation that buys and manages land, and partners with indigenous people for the protection of native flora and fauna. Bush Heritage owns 37 nature reserves covering 1.24 million hectares. Through its 25 Aboriginal Partnerships, the organisation assists in the management of a further 10.1 million hectares.

Volkswagen’s donation takes two parts

  • $250,000 for the 1 Million Trees Project, specifically the Yellow soil Mallee Heath Restoration at Eurardy, Western Australia; and
  • $750,000 for the restoration of 400 hectares at Scottsdale Reserve in New South Wales.

Recipients of the remainder of the sum pledged by Volkswagen are being considered.
